This report aims to review the status of children in Greater Amman and to conduct a capacity assessment of key institutions addressing children’s issues. Various issues are examined;; covering areas such as health;; education;; and socio-economic characteristics. This report also reviews the status of disadvantaged children;; including working children;; orphans;; refugees;; and children with disabilities;; in order to identify vulnerabilities and risk factors specific to them. Finally;; this report assesses the capacity of selected institutions addressing children’s issues in Greater Amman and proposes phased capacity building programs based on the findings of the assessment.

The UNICEF Syria Crisis is a series of bi-weekly report that provides a summary of the humanitarian situation in Syria and development of the organization’s projects in the regions including Syria;; Lebanon;; Jordan;; Iraq;; Turkey and Egypt. The report contains an overview to the changing situations and humanitarian needs of the crisis. It focuses on the results and progress of the UNICEF projects in partnership with other local agencies in each country. These projects aim to ensure sustained access to safe water and sanitation;; provide psychosocial support;; vaccination and school supplies for children and support camps and host community schools for increased school enrollment. Relevant figures that summarize and evaluate the development of ongoing programmes can also be found in the report.

With an executive summary on the Syrian refugees situation in Jordan;; the report combines the conclusions of detailed assessments in various areas including as child protection and gender-based violence;; education;; water sanitation and hygiene;; and nutrition and health. It provides a holistic picture of the situation faced by Syrian children and women in Jordan to draw out recommendations for necessary plans of action. Some key findings of the report include growing challenges for water;; sanitation and hygiene situation in Za’atari camp;; several threats to the nutritional status and health of Syrian girls;; boys and women and increasing violence against adolescents. Bringing together the voices of children and women at the camps;; the report examines the situations of Syrian refugees in host communities and refugee camps and finds key recommendations based on them.

This joint interagency appeal to the international community seeks a total of US$ 84;;833;;647 million to provide support to national efforts aimed at improving access to health care for displaced Iraqis living in Syria;; Jordan and Egypt. The activities prioritized in the appeal are based on the Common Action Framework agreed upon during the Ministerial Consultation to Address the Urgent Needs of Displaced Iraqis;; convened by WHO in Damascus from 29-30 July 2007.

The fifth volume in the series of Arab Human Development Reports sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme and independently authored by intellectuals and scholars from Arab countries. The report argues that human security is a prerequisite for human development;; and that the widespread absence of human security in Arab countries undermines people's options.

هدفت الدراسة الى التعرف على الخصائص الديموغرافية والظروف الاقتصادية والاجتماعية للأسر التي ترأسها امرأة وتحديد طبيعة المشكلات التي تواجهها وابناؤها وبالتالي تحديد اوجه واولويات التدخل وطبيعة المساعدات التي يمكن تقديمها لهذه الأسر. اعتمدت الدراسة المنهج الكمي والنوعي;; حيث استخدمت التحليلات الاحصائية SPSS;; واجراء المقابلات الفردية ومجموعات نقاش مركزة. عينة الدراسة كانت 1200 اسرة على مستوى الاقاليم الثلاث (شمال;; وسط;; جنوب) وكانت العينة عشوائية. وكما تم بناء استبيان لجمع البيانات. ولقد خرجت الدراسة بمجموعة من النتائج. وكما قدمت الدراسة مجموعة من التوصيات لمساعدة هذه الأسر في التغلب على النظرة النمطية والضغوط الاقتصادية.
