Sanad Conference Recommendations 'First Regional Conference on Alternative Care'
This report addresses the main recommendations of the Sanad Conference on Alternative Care,organized by Wataneya Society for the Development of Orphanages in Cairo in partnership with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and under the auspices of the Arab League. The aim of the conference was to improve the systems and services of aftercare in the Arab world through the exchange of experiences and highlighting the best practices that can be replicated and promote the integration of graduates of orphan care institutions in their communities,which begins with the rehabilitation of children from a childhood to independence and self-reliance.
The conference was attended by 45 participants from 15 countries: Egypt,United Arab Emirates,Saudi Arabia,Kuwait,Yemen,Iraq,Jordan,India,Morocco,Tunisia,Lebanon,Germany,United Kingdom,and Switzerland,including 5 care leavers from Egypt,Arab countries and Germany.
The recommendations formed four axes: professional practices,participation of care leavers in the development of the aftercare system,the role of the private sector and civil society,and the legislative framework of the alternative care system,especially aftercare.
