Empowering Civil Society through Media: 2018 Report
This report examines the results of the monitoring conducted by the Information and Research Center - King Hussein Foundation (IRCKHF) for seven mix media platforms in four months in 218. This is the fifth report published as a part of "Empowerment of Civil Society through Media" project. The IRCKHF adopted the methodology for monitoring the media content of current news and issues identified by UNESCO. The monitoring period was set for one random week of each month in accordance with the criteria of "gender equality indicators in media".
The monitoring revealed that there is still a gender gap in the media that have been monitored,both in the public and private sectors,as well as in multimedia platforms. Where the percentage of women's appearance is very low compared to men,as it reached 19% compared to 81%. Also,the percentage of gender-related news and women during the monitoring period in the four months did not exceed 15% compared to other gender-neutral or masculine articles.
The study concluded the need to establish an effective website that includes all the experts to make it easier for the journalist to find experts in different fields. Therefore,the journalist make an effort to search for new information by women.
