Empowering Civil Society through Media: 2019 Quarter One Report
This report examines the results of the monitoring conducted by the Information and Research Center - King Hussein Foundation (IRCKHF) for seven mix media platforms in the first three months of 219. This is the sixth report published as a part of "Empowerment of Civil Society through Media" project. The IRCKHF adopted the methodology for monitoring the media content of current news and issues identified by UNESCO. The monitoring period was set for one random week in January,and then modified to become two random days each month.
The monitoring revealed that there is still a gender gap in the media that have been monitored,both in the public and private sectors,as well as in multimedia platforms,and this gap increased comapring the previouse months. Where the percentage of women's appearance is very low compared to men,as it reached 14% compared to 86%. Also,the percentage of gender-related news and women during the monitoring period in the first quarter of 219 did not exceed 5% compared to other gender-neutral or masculine articles.
The study concluded the need to establish an effective website that includes all the experts to make it easier for the journalist to find experts in different fields. Therefore,the journalist make an effort to search for new information by women.
