Empowering Civil Society through Media: 2020 Quarter Two Report
This report examines the results of the monitoring conducted by the Information and Research Center - King Hussein Foundation (IRCKHF) for seven mix media platforms in the second quarter of 22. This is the 11th report published as part of "Empowerment of Civil Society through Community Media" project. The IRCKHF adopted the methodology for monitoring the media content of current news and issues identified by UNESCO. The monitoring period was set for two random days each month.
The monitoring revealed that there is still a gender gap in the media that have been monitored,both in the public and private sectors,as well as in multimedia platforms. The percentage of women's appearance is very low compared to men,as it reached 13% compared to 87%. Also,the percentage of gender-related news and women during the monitoring period in the second quarter of 22 did not exceed 2% compared to other gender-neutral or masculine articles.
The study concluded the need to establish an effective website that includes all the female experts to make it easier for the journalist to find female experts in different fields. Thus,the journalist make an effort to search for new information by women. Also,it recommends to study the reasons behind the reluctance of Jordanian women to deal with media.
