Gender-based violence and child protection among Syrian refugees in Jordan, with a focus on early marriage
This report was created to inform a comprehensive understanding of the risks that Syrian refugees face in urban Jordan, and to develop a deeper understanding of Syrian refugees' attitudes, knowledge, and practices of gender-based violence. Using questionnaires, interviews, and focus groups in 11 Jordanian governorates, the authors of the report found that rates of early marriage were high in Syrian refugee communities, and that restrictions on women's and girl's mobility often constrained their participation in society and their access to basic services. The outcome of the report was a number of recommendations to better respond to cases of gender-based violence, prevent early marriage, increase child protection, develop knowledge of basic services, and improve community relations between Jordanians and Syrians.
