The Jordanian Women's Movement: A Historical Analysis Focusing on Legislative Change

Summary

This dissertation provides historical context for the Jordanian women's movement and uses a case study of Article 34 in the Jordanian Penal Code to explore the ways that the Jordanian women's movement has engaged in the legal reform process. The author also examines the obstacles faced by the movement,which have included structural obstacles inherent to patriarchy and attitudinal obstacles inherent to the movement itself.
