Women in Personal Status Laws: Iraq,Jordan,Lebanon,Palestine,Syria
This report discusses and analyzes Muslim and non-Muslim legal systems and the laws specific to the personal status of women. These kinds of laws relate to matters of marriage,nationality,and inheritance. In analyzing these kinds of systems and creating a comparative study of the development of such systems,UNESCO hopes to create a pointed study which calls into question the organization and establishment of these laws of personal status for women. These legal systems,in conjunction with patriarchal societal norms,have established societies in which women's legal rights are inherently unequal to those of men.
