Policy Paper 2026 "Water Harvesting in Tafila: Towards Sustainable Water Security"
Summary
afilah Governorate is facing a severe and worsening water crisis due to consecutive drought seasons and declining rainfall, which reached only 124.11 mm in 2024. Most natural springs have dried up, leaving only 48 active springs with significantly reduced productivity. The governorate is home to approximately 111,500 residents living in 22,344 households, while more than 193,000 livestock depend on deteriorating water resources. This situation has increased agricultural production costs and contributed to higher poverty (17.2%) and unemployment (20.4%) rates.
