Inter-Parliamentary Union Annual Report 2013
This report discusses the role that Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) played in devoting energy and attention to the prevention of conflicts and disasters. It looks at disarmament and non-proliferation issues,political reconciliation,natural disasters,sustainable development,and the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the year of 213. IPU provided hands-on assistance to many parliaments and helped develop more democratic institutions,and it shaped an ever more effective parliamentary dimension to the work of the United Nations. This report goes on to discuss IPU's goal of advancing democratic culture,values and institutions. IPU has made an essential contribution to the construction of a more egalitarian,prosperous and peaceful world. The dialogue and negotiations taking place at IPU Assemblies are core features of democracy. Also,this report explains how gender equality and the equal participation of women in politics are fundamental to democracy,as are human rights in general.
