Maternal Health Thematic Fund: Annual Report 2013
This report discusses the Maternal Health Thematic Fund (MHTF) that was established in 28 to further enhance UNFPA's contributions to the health MDGs and to “boost support to high maternal mortality countries to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity.” The MHTF includes UNFPA's Midwifery Program and the Campaign to End Fistula,and it has invested heavily in strengthening health systems and providing technical support for maternal and newborn health in all the supported countries. This report aims to focus on emergency obstetric and newborn care,the Midwifery Program,the Campaign to End Fistula,and maternal death surveillance and response. This report includes results within the context of advocacy,policy,and political environment. It also gives an overview of the resources and management situation of the MHTF,and it discusses current challenges and the way forward for the second phase of the fund.
