GENDER ASSESSMENT FOR TVET PROGRAMMING IN JORDAN

A gender assessment of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs in Jordan was conducted at the request of the French Development Agency (AFD), aiming to analyze the barriers and opportunities for the participation of women and youth in the labor market, especially in light of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The assessment revealed low female labor force participation (only 14.7% in 2020) and rising unemployment among youth and women, with structural and social challenges hindering their participation. Recommendations were provided to enhance a gender-sensitive TVET environment, including policy reforms, infrastructure improvements, and strengthening coordination among stakeholders. A gender action plan was also developed for AFD partners to ensure gender mainstreaming in their programs.
