The Participation of Developing Countries in Global Value Chains: Implications for Trade and Trade Policy
Global Value Chains or GVCs are a testament to the effect of globalization on the economic sector. This policy note seeks to highlight how they operate and how they can reveal greater patterns of the way that despite the world being interconnected,participation of various countries to not reap the same benefits. A key note of this paper is that developing countries can in many ways be slighted of full reward for their participation,potentially leaving them susceptible to exploitation of more economically developed states. Through providing case studies by region,it closes with several policy recommendation related to specialization in market type,investment in regional economic communities and developing quality of infrastructure for sustainability. This current report focuses on a case-by-case analysis of regions-namely Africa,South Asia and Southeast Asia,with plans for the following report to address Latin America.
