Violence Against Women: Assessing the Situation in Jordan
The UN Task Force on Violence Against Women in Jordan endeavours to enhance coordination and intensify efforts to address violence against women for a more systematic,comprehensive and sustained approach. This assessment outlines the institutions and conventions already in place in Jordan and examines the gender gaps and other barriers that remain. It addresses the economic pressures including budgetary cuts for essential services,high poverty incidence as well as the cultural barriers within the society that hinder existing efforts to women’s equality. The assessment categorically analyzes the main stakeholders and their intervention strategies within Jordan. It further enumerates available resources for victims of gender based violence and prioritizes the future inventions in an effort to eliminate all forms of gender based violence within Jordan. The goal of the assessment is to be one of the important resources used to develop joint programmes between the Jordanian governmental,non‐governmental,and UN agencies in Jordan to combat violence against women and ensure the right of every woman in Jordan to be treated with dignity and respect.
