Rights of Egyptian Workers in Jordan (Submission to the Human Rights Council of the United Nations Universal Periodic Review of Jordan (Fourth Cycle Jan. – Feb. 2024) – 45th Session)
Jordan has ratified the core international human rights conventions, except for the
International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families and Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance. Despite the absence of a provision defining the legal value of international treaties in the constitution, the Jordanian judiciary has established that treaties transcend national laws whether they were approved by Parliament or those deemed not needing this approval. The Constitutional Court also affirmed that it is not permissible to issue a law that contradicts the obligations established by a treaty ratified by law.
