Marginalized Girls in Jordan: Rapid Assessment of the Impact of COVID-19

Summary

‘From Marginalized Girls to Empowered Women’ is a five-year project by the Information and Research Center – King Hussein Foundation (IRCKHF) and IM Swedish Development Partner (IM). The project aims
to enhance the social protection of some of the most marginalized girls in Jordan by carrying out research and advocacy in cooperation with the community-based organizations (CBOs) and civil society organizations
(CSOs) that support them.
In 219 and early 22,IRCKHF conducted baseline research with 62 marginalized girls (aged 14 - 19) in Amman and Irbid. Overall,33 girls were out of school at the time of the research. The majority of the girls
came from poor socio-economic backgrounds and from different vulnerable groups.
This research brief explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown on these marginalized girls. Due to mobility restrictions and social distancing guidelines, the survey was conducted with the baseline sample through telephone.
