Syrian Refugees and Jordanian Citizens: Perceptions and Trends
This study explores the attitudes of Syrian refugees and Jordanians in four key Jordanian governatorates: Amman,Irbid,Zarqa, and Mafraq. Preliminary studies indicated that the interested areas have experienced pressures as a result of the larger amount of refugees living there. The research is based on a survey sample of 2,13 respondents (1,13 Jordanians and 1, Syrians) that has been selected by accounting the total geographical distribution across the four considered governorates.
Despite indicators show relatively positive relations between Syrians and Jordanians the survey evidences that Jordanian attitudes towards Syrian refugees community appears to increasingly become negative as the crisis has persisted. This shift in attitudes seems to be explained by increasing concerns expressed by the host community about the economic and security consequences of hosting a large amount of refugees. Nevertheless, both Jordanians and Syrians refugees positively evaluated the provision of public services and facilities by local governments in the Hashemite Kingdom.
