UNHCR Country Operations Profile - Jordan Working Environment
A link to UNHCR's operations in Jordan that provides an overview of the situation of refuges currently in Jordan. This includes a description of the country's working environment, updated statistics,UNHCR response, strategies and relevant documents for refugees and asylum seekers in Jordan. The country profile of Jordan is important because Jordan is not a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention. Nonetheless, the Government refers to Syrians as refugees, and the protection space is generally favorable, although fragile owing to the country's own socio-economic challenges. The government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UNHCR in 1998,which forms the basis for the Office's activities in Jordan and the parameters for cooperation between UNHCR and the Government.
