Complementing the World Development Report 2012: Gender Equality and Development (WDR 2012), this report, Opening Doors: Gender Equality in the Middle East and North Africa, focuses on the challenges and reform priorities for gender equality in the MENA Region. Following the approach of the 2012 WDR, the current report argues that “gender equality is smart economics” in MENA, as it is around the world. The report draws on economic analysis of quantitative data from MENA, qualitative research, and other international evidence to analyze gender challenges and identify the priority areas for policy action to promote gender equality in the Region.
